The Tina Turner Musical

Tina is an award-winning musical written by Katori Hall.
It tells the story of Grammy Award-winning and best-selling recording artist Tina Turner, an American singer, dancer and actress who rose from humble beginnings in Tennessee to become the Queen of Rock’n’Roll.
The musical features the songs we all love and is getting rave reviews!

What’s love got to do with it?

Born Anna-May Bullock, she grew up in a poor family in the state of Tennessee, USA.
Her mother abandoned her and she was raised by her grandmother with great difficulty.
Ike Turner discovered her in a small club in St Louis and gave her the name Tina Turner.
They became a successful duo, the king and queen of rock and roll.
The musical tells of the abuse she suffered from Ike, her husband.
She attempted suicide, and only managed to escape the relationship with her children, after an immense struggle.
Despite her commercial success, she was left penniless. All she had was her stage name, Tina Turner.
Her hit song What’s Love Got To Do With It? was a turning point in her life and made her commercially successful after her divorce from Ike.

Tina has managed to reinvent herself and the musical celebrates her power as a person, as an energy bomb on stage and as a tremendous singer.

Tina Turner in London, An Absolute Star

The actress playing Tina Turner is phenomenal. She does an amazing job as Tina.
The costumes that change at a dizzying pace, the dancing, the endless wigs and the raw and warm voice that fills the room make you feel that this is the real thing.

The second part of the musical is the feel good part we have been waiting for.
Turner manages to build herself up with her talent and thanks to excellent people who believe in her, like the Australian producer who brought her to London.
The scene in the musical where she spends time in London at the record company is particularly amusing.
She finally found love in the person of Erwin Bach, the German manager sent by her European record company (EMI), and they married after a 27-year romantic relationship.
She spent the rest of her life with him in Switzerland.
Tina Turner is a true success story, against all odds and with 12 Grammy Awards to her name.
