Carsten Holler; Decision at Southbank’s Hayward Gallery
if you remember for the seventh commission in The Unilever Series, in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, Carsten Höller created Test Site, his most ambitious installment of his ongoing series of slide works which started in 1998. In the coming show at the Hayward gallery, Höller’s interest in slides ranges from their use as a practical and alternative means of transportation and the effect of sliding itself, which involves a loss of control. Featuring sculptures, videos, installations and light works, Holler’s aim is to create a situation in which visitors have to re-orientate their perception of time and space. Always generating and involving, the pieces place visitors in a series of experimental environments.
Highlights of the show include slides that stretch from the glass pyramid ceiling to the gallery entrance, two robotic beds that constantly mirror each other’s movements and two Flying Machines that allow visitors to take off and ‘fly’ over Waterloo Bridge.
A friendly exhibition for children and young people.
From 10 June 2015 to 6 September 2015
Address: Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre, London SE1 8XX
Tube: Waterloo
