Exceptional choreography! A Disney Musical For the Whole Family – Newsies!
Newsies
The original production of Newsies opened on Broadway in 2012 and won two Tony Awards,
including Best Choreography and Best Original Score.
The production was filmed live and broadcast on television!
In London, this year’s production won the Olivia Award for Best Choreography for Theatre.
The Story
The musical Newsies is based on the 1992 Disney movie, which was itself based on a real historical event, the 1899 Newspaper Boys’ Strike.
After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy, and his fellow Newsies, who dream of a better life away from the hardships of the streets, take action!
They do so with the help of Katherine Plumber, a charming journalist covering the story for Pulitzer’s rival paper, with whom Jack falls in love.
New York City comes together and soon realises the power of the solidarity of the “little man”.
Newsies in London
The musical is played in a spacious and modern theatre with a magnificent cast of amazing dancers.
The performers take over the stage and lift the audience as they enter from three entrances simultaneously.
There are even several songs where the dancers are suspended in the air(!) on lamps and omegas, flying above the audience.
The excitement creates a sense of immersive, experiential theatre.

Disney in London
The Disney Company is a major player when it comes to musicals in London.
The shows currently running are The Lion King and Frozen, which are excellent for children and adults alike.
Sadly, musicals like Aladdin and Mary Poppins are no longer running. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if they come back in the future.
